I’m humbled, and honoured this Volunteer Recognition Week to be a recipient of the CK Community Recognition Awards 2026 at the John D Bradley Centre, Chatham sponsored by CN. I was supported by my family and friends who attended the event and celebrated with me; Denise Shephard, Pastors Jamie & Lana from The Salvation Army Chatham Kent, Christine Mitchell from Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation Bob Kennedy from Water Elite, Keith Cornell from Real Canadian Superstore, Sebastian Van NOOTEN, Tom Grochmal, and Geri Ann Hughson from FreeHelpCK - thank you all, I am truly blessed with all of you in my life!
My CK story of volunteerism-it is a joy to give of one’s self:
STEVE BRENT
“Steve returned to Chatham-Kent in 2006 with his wife, Michele, bringing a strong commitment to strengthening the local community. Since then, he has applied his leadership, fundraising, volunteer coordination, communications, professional photography skills and advocacy skills across a broad range of organizations, including Salvation Army Chatham-Kent Ministries, FreeHelpCK, YMCA, Chatham Hospice, Heart & Stroke, Knights of Columbus Blessed Sacrament Council #1412, Chatham-Kent Women’s Centre, United Way of Chatham-Kent, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation’s MRi Campaign/“Raise The Roof”/ Parade of Chefs/ Dancing with the Stars/ Annual Teddy Bear Campaign, CKHA, Right to Life Kent, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Outreach for Hunger, Chatham Hope Haven, CK Arts and Culture initiatives, and Canadian Cancer Society events such as the CIBC Run for the Cure and Relay for Life Chatham. Through the Knights of Columbus, he has also supported the beloved “Soup’s On” community event—an effort he is proud to help revive in October after its hiatus since 2020. Steve has consistently mobilized volunteers, raised essential funds, donated ten’s of thousands event photos for a half dozen nonprofits and strengthened the social fabric of Chatham-Kent through his ongoing service.”
“Driven by faith, fuelled through lifting others up.” ~ Steve Brent, 2006
