Helped Homeless Family

Our house backed onto a parking lot in our local park. For a week, I saw this family of four park there during the day. They had a dog and allowed the dog to run free. The family would stand around the car, eating, brushing their teeth, and even washing their hair with a bucket of water. It broke my heart. I realized they were living in their car. We had a gate that opened directly to the park. Since it was Thanksgiving weekend, I always cook my turkey ahead of time. I went out and asked them directly if they were homeless. They said yes. So I invited them into my home so that they could shower, do laundry, and feed them turkey sandwiches. I also asked if they wanted to contact shelters in the area because they couldn't continue living on the streets. They were very thankful for my help. They were concerned about their dog because shelters don't accept animals. They were able to temporarily re-home their dog with a friend. Afterward, they were able to get into a local shelter. I was so relieved. I often think about them, and I sincerely hope they were able to get the help they desperately needed.
