✈️ Non-Profit Spotlight: Dreams Take Flight Winnipeg Chapter
Your Kindness Corner
Imagine an aircraft filled with deserving children heading out for what may become the most magical day of their lives.
Dreams Take Flight Winnipeg Chapter is a non-profit Air Canada charity powered by active and retired employees, family, friends, and dedicated volunteers.
Throughout the year, the chapter fundraises through raffles, galas, socials, dinners, and other activities. They do it all for one very special reason: to take an aircraft of deserving children to a Disney Park for an unforgettable day.
The children come from local charities and organizations such as Boys and Girls Club, Firefighter Burn Fund, and Rossbrook House, to name a few.
Air Canada provides the aircraft, and Dreams Take Flight does the rest. The flight crew volunteers their time, while volunteers accompanying the children prepare for a very long day — departing at 5:00 a.m. and not returning home until after midnight.
The children going on the flight receive a medical check, and two doctors also join the trip.
The flight there is filled with excitement. Sister Margaret from Rossbrook House would always say:
“This is the best party in the sky.”
Then comes a day filled with rides, laughter, treats, new friends, and a bit of shopping. On the flight home, everyone cuddles in and sleeps after an incredible day.
This year marks the 30th Anniversary Flight out of Winnipeg, and the chapter is very excited and privileged to be part of this special charity.
💛 Why It Began
Dreams Take Flight began with a small group of Toronto Air Canada employees who wanted to do something special for deserving children in the early 1990s.
From that beginning, the organization has grown to seven chapters across Canada, including the Winnipeg Chapter.
What started as a group of employees wanting to create something special has grown into decades of magical memories for children.
🧡 Who They Serve & Their Impact
Dreams Take Flight Winnipeg works with deserving children connected with local charities and community organizations.
For the children selected, the experience is much more than simply a flight. It is an entire day of excitement, rides, laughter, treats, new friendships, and experiences they can remember long after they return home.
Carol Eliasson serves on the Dreams Board, looks after corporate sponsors, and has chaired many galas.
This year’s anniversary flight will also be particularly special for Carol — it will be her 30th flight, having participated in every Winnipeg flight.
In her words: “I just love this charity.”
