๐ค Non-Profit Spotlight: Operation White Heart
Your Kindness Corner
One White Heart. One Conversation. One Life Touched.
Sometimes, a simple symbol can carry a powerful message of hope.
Operation White Heart began in 2022 as an initiative to help fight the stigma surrounding mental health, inspired by founder Gary Brown's personal experience with suicide loss.
The idea is simple but meaningful: residents, businesses, and municipalities are encouraged to create white hearts made from garden stones in their front yards, facing the road.
Each heart carries an important message:
๐ค We are not alone.
๐ค We matter.
๐ค It's okay not to be okay.
And perhaps most importantly, the hearts create conversations.
Today, more than 900 white hearts have been created in communities, with the majority located throughout Eastern Canada.
๐ Why It Began
Operation White Heart was born from suicide loss and a desire to help others feel less alone.
In 2022, Gary Brown began encouraging people to place white hearts in their yards as visible reminders of kindness, hope, and the importance of talking about mental health.
What started as one initiative has continued to spread as more individuals, businesses, and communities embrace the message.
Gary hopes to inspire other communities to take on the initiative and create their own white hearts, helping the message reach even more people.
๐งก Who They Serve & Their Impact
Operation White Heart is an initiative for everyone.
By placing a white heart where others can see it, participants help create awareness, encourage conversations, and remind people that they matter.
With more than 900 hearts now displayed, the initiative continues to spread messages of kindness and hope.
When Gary travels to help create the hearts, he charges a small fee and uses the money to train people in ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training).
This helps extend the initiative beyond the visible symbol by supporting training for people who can respond to those experiencing suicidal thoughts.
At its heart, Operation White Heart is about communities supporting one another and helping people feel seen, valued, and less alone.
๐จ Current Initiatives & Needs
Operation White Heart continues to encourage more communities to participate.
Gary shares a simple reminder:
โIf your one heart impacts one person you have done a great deed.โ
The goal is to inspire residents, municipalities, and businesses to create white hearts in their own communities.
Every new heart helps spread the message that it's okay to talk, that no one is alone, and that kindness and hope can be shared in simple but meaningful ways.
๐ค How You Can Support
Supporting Operation White Heart is something almost anyone can do.
๐ค Make a White Heart
Create a heart using white garden stones in your front yard, facing the road where others can see it.
๐ค Encourage Your Community
Invite neighbours, local businesses, and municipalities to participate.
๐ค Start the Conversation

๐ค Help Spread the Message

As Gary explains, all they ask is that people make a heart in their yard.
Residents, businesses, and municipalities can all make a difference.

๐ฌ In His Words
A poem shared by Gary Brown, Founder of Operation White Heart:
Oh white heart if freedom love and hope
A sign of which to help you cope
When you see a heart on the land as you walk
Know it a symbol , it's ok to talk
As you walk by a heart that is made of white
We hope that it brings you from darkness to light

๐ค One Heart Can Make a Difference
Operation White Heart reminds us that sometimes the smallest gestures can carry the greatest meaning.
A heart made from white garden stones may seem simple, but to someone passing by, it can be a reminder that they are not alone, that they matter, and that it's okay to reach out.
With more than 900 hearts already spreading hope, Gary Brown hopes to see even more communities take part.
One white heart. One conversation. One reminder that nobody has to face their struggles alone. ๐ค
