Happy Hearts, Wagging Tails, New Beginnings
Across Ontario β and stretching all the way to Texas β lives are being changed one small dog at a time.
Texas Chihuahua Rescue β Canada is dedicated to saving abandoned, neglected, and at-risk Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes from high-intake shelters in Texas. They also accept small-breed surrenders here in Ontario, ensuring local dogs in crisis have a safe place to land.
Their mission is rooted in compassion, transparency, and the belief that every dog β no matter their size, age, or past β deserves a joyful life.
The organization began operating in Canada in 2017 and officially became a registered nonprofit in 2020. Since then, their volunteer-driven team has expanded their foster network, increased intake capacity, and supported more vulnerable dogs each year.
Operating entirely through volunteers and foster homes across Ontario, they provide individualized care, veterinary support, and rehabilitation. From medical cases to seniors to dogs needing patience and stability, each one is given the second chance they deserve.
π Why It Began
Texas Chihuahua Rescue first started in Texas after witnessing the overwhelming number of small dogs surrendered or abandoned due to overcrowding, limited resources, and reduced adoption opportunities.
The Canadian branch was created to expand that lifesaving work β offering a safe pathway for dogs who would otherwise have no chance.
As requests for help grew from Texas shelters and small-breed owners in Ontario facing crisis, Canadian volunteers recognized the need for a structured and sustainable rescue presence. That vision became TXCR Canada in 2017, followed by nonprofit registration in 2020 β strengthening operations and increasing impact.
πΆ Who They Serve
Texas Chihuahua Rescue β Canada serves:
Chihuahuas and small-breed mixes at risk of euthanasia in Texas shelters
Small dogs in Ontario needing urgent surrender support
Many arrive with medical needs, fear, or trauma. Through their foster network, these dogs receive stability, healing, and individualized care before being matched with adopters who understand their needs.
Their impact is measured in lives saved, families formed, and the transformation seen when a dog finally feels safe.
π¨ Current Needs
Right now, their greatest needs include:
Foster homes β especially for seniors, bonded pairs, and dogs recovering medically
Donations toward veterinary care
Volunteers for transport, home visits, admin support, and events
Support for local Ontario surrenders as requests continue to rise
They continue working to bring dogs from overcrowded Texas shelters as space and resources allow.

Every act of support directly impacts how many dogs they can save.
βEvery dog we bring to safety is a reminder that compassion changes lives. We donβt just rescue dogs β we build families, restore trust, and give hope where it was lost.β

And in their own words of gratitude:
Choosing to adopt a rescue dog doesnβt just change one life β it creates space for another animal in need. Every adoption makes room at their Texas ranch for the next dog waiting for a second chance.
Because sometimes the smallest dogs carry the biggest hearts. π
From Texas Chihuahua Rescue β Canada: A huge thankβyou to our amazing volunteers β our coordinators, fosters, and directors. You are the reason lives are saved, families are formed, and hope is restored. Your hard work and heart make all the difference, every single day
