👥 Non-Profit Spotlight: Transcona Retired Citizens Organization
Your Kindness Corner
In Winnipeg's Transcona community, one organization has been helping older adults stay active, connected, and engaged for many years.
The Transcona Retired Citizens Organization (TRCO) provides a welcoming place where seniors can enjoy a variety of activities, build friendships, and stay involved in their community.
From September through May, TRCO offers a variety of weekday activities, along with a weekly homemade soup and sandwich lunch that is freshly prepared on site. It's a place where members can gather, socialize, and enjoy being part of an active community.
💛 Why It Began
The Transcona Retired Citizens Organization was created with a simple purpose — to give retired individuals an opportunity to stay active and connected.
Today, that same goal continues to bring people together through friendship, recreation, and community involvement.
🧡 Who They Serve & Their Impact
Today, TRCO has approximately 600 members who regularly participate in its activities throughout the year.
Whether attending weekly programs, enjoying a fresh lunch with friends, or simply spending time together, members find opportunities to stay active, build relationships, and remain connected within their community.
🚨 Current Needs
Like many long-standing community organizations, TRCO is always looking for ways to improve.
Because of the age of their building, they are currently unable to upgrade their air conditioning system. However, they would greatly benefit from:
• Fans to help keep members comfortable
• New dinnerware and cutlery for community meals
These improvements would help enhance the experience for everyone who visits the centre.
🤝 How You Can Support
There are many ways to support the Transcona Retired Citizens Organization.
One of their greatest needs is welcoming younger seniors who may be interested in becoming involved and eventually taking on leadership roles currently held by long-serving board members.
New volunteers and future board members will help ensure the organization continues serving the community for years to come.
For the Transcona Retired Citizens Organization, it's about more than activities—it's about creating a place where retirees can stay active, make lasting friendships, and continue enjoying life together. 💙
