The "Cabbage Patch Kids to Kids in the North" Project!

For over a decade, I’ve been part of a group that sends warm clothing and household items to remote, northern, Inuit communities in Canada.
Somewhere along the way, I put Cabbage Patch dolls into a few parcels — the kids absolutely loved them, and an idea was born!
As an 80s child, I always wanted a Cabbage Patch kid. I obsessed, but as recent immigrants from Poland, my parents couldn’t spend the money. It was also really hard to get these dolls during the now infamous, “Cabbage Patch Craze.”
Eventually, our family friends bought me and my sister our first and only Cabbage Patch dolls. I will never forget the love and excitement I felt, and the many years I spent playing with my beloved Dudley Beaumont (yes, the names were always imaginative)!
Now, I find them at thrift stores, or have kind people donate them to me, along with any clothing they might find or make for them. I wash, sew, fix their hair, and find them clothing, to prepare them for their journeys into the arms of happy kids in the north.
Without the help of the community, I wouldn’t be able to send these to the kids who absolutely adore them, and whose photos I cherish when their parents send them to me.
I have generously been gifted many of these dolls, clothing and sometimes even funds to help me keep sending these beloved dolls and other items up north.
